Limits Do Not Mean An End

Welcome to another #WisdomWednesday. On this day I would like to talk about what it means to know your limits. People are under the false assumption that when you have reached your limit, you have reached the end and this is not true. In fact it is a warped sense of thinking that has been instilled in us from the moment we began to learn. This is part of the brainwashing I often talk about it is yet another bad habit that you must learn how to break. There are three limits that I would like to quickly discuss that do not mean you have reached an end, they simply mean you need a break or you need some time to refocus and or regroup.

The first limit I would like to discuss is a huge limit and it comes in various forms. This limit is about giving, whether it is giving of your time, giving gifts or just giving breaks. As humans, most of us tend to give whatever we have at the time we are asked. Just because you reach your limit and are tired of saying yes every time someone asks you to give them some of your time or if you have reached your limit when being constantly asked for a donation or for a loan or finally, if you have reached your limit when people constantly ask for discounts or they ask you to work for free, reaching these limits does not mean that you have reached the end of giving and can never do any more. Reaching these limits simply mean that at that given time, you have reached your limit from these requests and will not entertain the request for now but will engage them again in the future when you are good and ready to do so.

The second limit is needing to say no. This is a limit people sometimes reach on a daily basis. When you have mastered the art of saying no, which I have discussed in previous blog posts, reaching this limit is not an end to your ability to ever give a positive response. It simply means that you are done and do not want to hear from that person or about that situation anymore, for now. Just know that saying no does not close a door and it is not an end. Saying no is just a pause until you are ready to proceed or until you are ready to just move on to something different. You can always go back and re-address that situation but at the moment, you are done and you do not need to give reasons as to why you are saying no and you do not have to give a time table when you may replace that no with a yes. Stay in control of your own life and make sure you are always in control of your business.

Finally, the last limit I am going to discuss is knowing when enough is enough. This too is not an end but can be a very frustrating and stressful situation. When you have reached this point of enough is enough, this means that you have allowed yourself to be taken advantage of or you have allowed others to invade your every thought, your personal life and or your business. If you are reaching this point of enough is enough, you need to get back to the basics and go back and read previous blog posts of mine where I specifically tell you how to manage your time and how to stay strong and make sure that you make yourself the primary focus.

So, the point of this blog post is to assure you that although you may have reached your limit when it comes to people, places or things, limits do not mean that you have reached an end point, rather a limit is just a stopping point where you should pause and reflect before moving forward. You need to assess your situation and as soon as you have gathered yourself, you can move forward or walk away from a situation with a clear head. Reaching a limit is actually a great tool for reassessing situations as long as you are aware that you have in fact reached this pause point and you are in tune to what is happening around you.
