Hi and welcome to another #TalkingTuesday. I am often asked how can one talk their way into business growth and how can they find that many people to talk to without wasting so many hours in their day? Well, people have to stop taking everything so literal. You have to go with the flow because if you keep trying to force a situation, you almost always come out the loser. Your actions speak just as loudly as your words.
You have to build your business with a certain precision but not necessarily perfection. By this I mean that precision is taking step by step and methodical actions toward building and growing a business but not so much a perfection aspect. There really is no such thing as perfection especially in business and if you keep focusing in on making something perfect, you will lose precious time that could have been spent elsewhere. You cannot just think there is a magic box that will fulfill all your needs. Although there are many building blocks for creating and growing a successful business, I have three major building blocks for all to use while building and growing their business. Think of these building blocks as three main talking points that need to be constantly in your face to ensure you do not go off track.
The first building block is that it is imperative that you build trust. People have to know you have a great reputation so that they can trust that you will deliver what they seek. You cannot buy your reputation so if you are serious, you must make it a point to always try and deliver on your promises. You must be consistent in your business so that people become comfortable with it and they will always know what to expect. For example, think of McDonalds. You know that you can count on certain items being on the menu. You know what the food will taste like. You also know that you are not going to walk into a McDonalds for a Big Mac and fries only to be told that they only have tacos that day. By building peoples trust, this becomes free advertisement for you in the form of talking by proxy. In other words, your reputation will proceed you and by default, other people will talk to other people for you and so on. Your reputation is like your silent partner but with huge potential so build that trust and it will pay off immensely.
The next important building block is to build a strong strong foundation for your business by doing a great job. Stop trying to be everything to everyone. The thinner you spread yourself by trying to offer everything you can, the greater the chances that your business will crack under pressure. Focus on a main goal for your business and be great at it. Make everything you do revolve around your core purpose. This will strengthen your businesses foundation by building strong core values that will win you plenty of referrals and again, this is less people that you have to actually reach out to because your satisfied clients and or customers will be helping to build your business for you by referring others to you.
Finally, the third building block I want you to concentrate on is to build a habit of asking for feedback. It does not matter what kind of feedback you get. It can be good, bad or indifferent as long as it is feedback. Good and indifferent feedback allows you to see what you are doing right. Bad feedback is even more important as it allows you to clean up a mistake, tweek a product, change a procedure or just simply to put you on notice of a possible impending problem. Always welcome feedback as it is like having free focus groups that you do not have to pay someone to run for you. Oh and feedback helps you to interact with people which in turn hones your conversational skills for a day like Talking Tuesday.
So although these three building blocks may seem as if they run into each other, that is the point. Think of it as one being the foundation to your home, one being the walls of that home and one being the roof. All three are fine structures but unless they work in conjunction with one another, they are basically useless. So build that trust, build a sturdy foundation and build an arsenal of free feedback that can propel your business upwards.
Do not forget about your continuous learning that will propel you further than your imagine can even take you. So for today, I have a great suggested reading for you.
