Happy #FundMeFriday. I was going to skip my blog post today because today is my birthday and in between working to build my dream and living the dream I already created, I have been celebrating my life. I decided though that I should do my due diligence and make sure that I remind all of you that depend on my annoying yet necessary reminders that you need to pay yourself today. Hopefully you have not made any frivolous purchases before you made your weekly deposit into your savings. Saving that little bit each week cements each step you take on your journey toward your dream so if you did indeed forget, make that transfer now or worse case scenario, do it tomorrow morning. Just get it done. 😄
I used to do so much work for free solely because I felt sorry for so many people. I also learned that the more free I did, the more free I was asked to do. That was a vicious cycle I caused myself and slowly, very slowly, I had to work my way out of that mess. You cannot do free and expect to prosper. There is a huge difference between doing free work and working for free.
When you do free work, you teach people that you are a push over and you teach people that the only value you have is to complete a task for them without being worthy of having actual value. You are the one that needs to come to the realization that your time is one of the most valuable assets that you have and if you do not value it, than you cannot expect anyone else to place a value on it so you need to immediately stop doing free work.
On the other hand, working for free is different. When YOU do work for free, work that you have chosen to do, you are choosing to help someone because it brings you inner value in the form of satisfaction. You are choosing to take your precious time and donate it to someone that you feel you need to bring value to and you enjoy the exchange between working for free yet earning satisfaction in your life.
So, basically, when you place a value on your time, you will garner respect because those who do in fact value you, appreciate you and more importantly, respect you and your time will continue to utilize and pay for your services. While those who do not value you and who were only using you to get whatever they could from you will slowly mope away. Charging even a little something will weed your figurative garden and it will allow you to grow the grouping of people that you actually want around you.
