Some of you are probably wondering what on Earth does this blog post topic have to do with building and growing a business? Well, on this #TalkingTuesday, I am going to talk and touch upon how, once again, your personal life and your business life are one in the same.
Let us start with my topic of choice, love. Is love a choice you make or a feeling that you have? Before I continue, I am going to preface my response by saying that I am aware that the answer that I am going to give to this question is convoluted, complicated and very biased so when you read on, please keep in mind that this blog post is not intended to be a philosophical conversation instead, my answer is meant to be used as a comparison on peoples individual choices and feelings which directly cause them to make a decision. A decision like purchasing products or services.
When you choose something, and this is a very simplistic example, it is because it brings you an immediate sense of wanting it, it sparks some sense of pleasure when you see it and you are drawn to it. You want it and you have made your choice to get it. But wait, do all of these traits mean that you love it too?
Well, let us speak about having love as a feeling. When you love something, and again, this is a very simplistic example, it is because you have a sense of wanting it. It sparks a sense of pleasure when you see it and you are drawn to it. Wait a minute, did I not just say the same exact things above for love as a choice? Of course I did because when you love something you have criteria within you that is a whole list of things you have chosen as desirable to you then, when you come in direct contact with something that has all the boxes checked on your list, you usually fall in love. Love is therefore a choice followed by and in conjunction with feelings.
Why is this important? For the purposes of my blog, knowing this is important, especially on #TalkingTuesday, while you are out engaging people, you must talk about what desires people have. You have to ask people what drew them to buy a particular product or want a particular product or service. You need to listen when they tell you that they “love the new album that “XYZ” just released”. When you find out why people chose things and why they say they love something, then you will find out what attracted them to that particular item and by extension, you will have a direct link to the exact wording for marketing to people which will save you thousands of dollars in advertising cost that so many people incur “trying the market”. For example, let us assume you own an iPhone store and assume ten people purchased an iPhone on a given day. Now assume you asked all ten people why they chose the iPhone. In your questioning you find out that amongst other reasons, all ten have said that they love taking pictures with their phone and the iPhone has a great camera. Now, it is time for your new advertising campaign. Are you going to spend thousands of dollars advertising the different colors of the iPhone or will you spend that money advertising the remarkable camera? I think we all know the advertising of the camera will bring in way more sales than advertising the colors. Your ability and willingness to have simple conversations can save you as well as make you lots of money.
When people choose something it is because they want it and desire to have it and in some form love it. Love is both a choice and a feeling and knowing WHY they chose something or someone will almost always answer WHY someone loves something. In business this is important to know because if you can find out why someone chooses something, you can take those choices, apply them to your product or service and it will aim potential clients and customers at you like a magnet.
Love is not the end goal, it is a by-product of many other factors. Just like making a sale is not the end goal, it is the by-product of everything that you do and everything you do will build your reputation and by extension build your business and hopefully guarantee your dream life and your financial freedom.
The point of this blog post is to always be engaging people. As with love, if you want to maintain the relationship so it constantly grows and flourishes while benefitting all parties than you have to continuously meet each other’s expectations and you start this process by talking to and engaging people.
