Does it upset you when you do a job for someone and they look at you and question the amount of time you spent performing that job? They expect if you spend half hour on a job then you should be paid like $35 or $50 instead of the $150 or whatever fee you charged them. For this reason, you need to know what your time and what your expertise is worth and be adamant about it or you will get torn apart by whomever it is you are trying to charge. So, on this #TrashItThursday, I want you to throw out all that nonsense in your head where you question whether or not to charge your proper fee or should you “milk your time”, so that this client will think you are worth it. Give me a break. Learn to charge what you are worth.
One way to get this under control is to boost your self-esteem. The reason most people in business are undercutting themselves or questioning their worth is mainly because their self-esteem needs a supercharged boost. Your self-esteem does not come from other people, so do not look to others. Self-esteem comes right from inside your head and one of the main culprits to mentally torturing you is the fact that you are unable to handle negative emotions. You have to make this one of the self-help things in your life that you work on diligently. Take a class or read self-help books to help you overcome this mental battle in your head if you want others to know and appreciate how much you are worth.
Another way to combat this issue is to surround yourself with the right people. These people have to be people who appreciate you and who want what you are offering. You cannot surround yourself with people who are always trying to get you to do work for free or people who always want you to cut them a deal. This world is huge and has an over abundance of people who need you so hold out for them and do not under value yourself because you feel you will not get anyone else who will know your worth.
Finally, body language often speaks louder than words. Yes this is true. People instinctively know if you are cowering and as soon as they smell this vulnerability, they will pounce on you to get what they want. You must be assertive and you must be willing to walk away if they refuse to pay you what you are worth. If they are serious about working with you then they will. If they just were hoping they could get something for free or close to free then they will walk away and you will then know that they were not the right person you should be doing business with. Problem solved.
So, make sure you are always valuing your services for what they are actually worth and what you are worth as the person performing said job. Walk away from people who are always looking to get something for nothing. These people are a dime a dozen and if you give in, you are the one who will be responsible for diminishing your own worth. And, always walk with your head up and your body dominant in knowing the choice is yours whether or not to walk away from a potential sale.
Everyone should be learning on a continuous basis which is why I am always suggesting books. It is very important to your continued success so once again I am going to suggest a book that I have suggested in the past called The Science of Self-Empowerment. As usual, I suggest you go and borrow it from your local library or from a friend. If neither option is available, here is a link to get it from Amazon>> https://amzn.to/2NLloJF
If you choose to shop in Amazon, I would greatly appreciate it if you could use the link I have provided. As an Amazon Affiliate, it is possible I can earn a bonus and therefore continue to provide continued content we all enjoy. Thank you in advance!
